Disruptor is a support hero who returns enemies to their previous position, restricts their movement, and prevents them from using abilities. Glimpse punishes careless retreats, while Static Storm can decide the outcome of a team fight. In this article, we’ll look at Disruptor counters for each role, useful items, and ways to play against him at different stages of the game.
Hero Characteristics
Disruptor is especially effective against heroes who rely on dashes and escape abilities. Glimpse returns its target to where it was several seconds ago, Kinetic Field restricts their escape, and Static Storm deals damage and silences. In a team fight, he can separate a hero from their allies and prevent them from casting spells.
The hero has low mobility and a small health pool. He is vulnerable to quick initiation and control. Some abilities and items can help you avoid Glimpse or escape Kinetic Field, but keep Aghanim’s Scepter in mind: the upgraded Static Storm can disable active items.
Best Heroes Against Disruptor
Disruptor most often plays position 4 — support, or position 5 — hard support. Heroes who can survive his combo, avoid Glimpse, or quickly reach Disruptor himself are useful against him.
Carry
- Juggernaut uses Blade Fury to dispel some effects and escape Kinetic Field. The ability can also help him dodge Glimpse with proper timing.
- Anti-Mage can quickly reach Disruptor with Blink and protect himself from some magic damage with Counterspell. Blink alone does not guarantee that he will dodge Glimpse.
Mid
- Huskar handles magic damage well and can leave a dangerous area with Life Break.
- Ember Spirit uses Fire Remnant to reposition and can escape Kinetic Field if he has a charge ready.
Offlaner
- Legion Commander can quickly reach Disruptor and catch him with Duel, preventing him from casting Static Storm.
- Primal Beast closes the gap with Onslaught and holds Disruptor in Pulverize.
Support
- Shadow Demon can save an ally with Disruption if he manages to cast it before Static Storm.
- Oracle protects an ally with False Promise and helps them survive Disruptor’s combo.
Hard Support
- Silencer interrupts Disruptor’s abilities and prevents him from starting his combo with Global Silence.
- Abaddon dispels some negative effects from an ally with Aphotic Shield and helps them survive the initial attack.
What to Buy Against Disruptor
- Black King Bar protects you from many of Disruptor’s abilities if you activate it before being caught by Static Storm.
- Manta Style dispels some effects from its owner and can dodge Glimpse if used at the right time.
- Lotus Orb helps dispel some negative effects from an ally and reflects targeted spells.
- Force Staff helps you escape Kinetic Field if you are not affected by Static Storm with Aghanim’s Scepter.
- Glimmer Cape helps protect an ally and reduce the magic damage they take.
- Linken’s Sphere blocks one targeted spell, but Disruptor can remove the block with another ability.
How to Play Against Disruptor at Different Stages
Laning
Don’t move far from the lane after a trade: Disruptor can bring a hero back with Glimpse. Watch out for Thunder Strike, and don’t stand near an ally if both of you could take damage. If Disruptor has used his abilities, use the downtime to apply pressure.
Mid Game
Try not to spread too far apart: Disruptor can isolate one hero with Glimpse and trap them with Kinetic Field. Before a fight starts, decide who will attack the support himself, and save a defensive item for Static Storm.
Late Game
Keep Aghanim’s Scepter in mind: the upgraded Static Storm can prevent you from using active items. Don’t enter a narrow passage as a whole team, and save your control abilities for Disruptor. If he uses his ultimate without accomplishing anything, launch a counterattack while it is on cooldown.
