Marci is a mobile melee hero who quickly closes in on a target, stuns them, and deals a series of powerful attacks. Rebound helps her move through allies and enemies, while Unleash makes her especially dangerous in short fights. In this article, we’ll look at Marci’s strengths, the heroes that counter her in each role, defensive items, and tactics for the laning stage, midgame, and late game.
Hero strengths
Marci is strong when she can choose a target first and prevent them from retreating. Dispose moves an enemy and disrupts their positioning, while Rebound lets her quickly close the gap. Bodyguard buffs her and an ally, helping them win trades, while Unleash grants a series of rapid attacks that deal area damage. This makes supports and cores who are alone or approach creeps without backup especially vulnerable.
If you survive her initial initiation and move away from Unleash’s strikes, it becomes harder for Marci to keep fighting. She has to close in on her target, so slows, knockbacks, and disables severely limit her. Don’t stand next to an ally if Marci can use Rebound to jump in, and don’t try to fight her one-on-one while she’s empowered by Unleash. It’s better to force her to use her mobility, then respond as a team.
Best heroes against Marci
Marci can play position 1 as a carry, mid, position 3, or support. Most often, she uses her mobility and damage to launch quick attacks. Below are counters sorted by role that can help you survive her initiation or stop her chase.
Carry
- Ursa wins close-range fights and can survive some of Marci’s damage with Enrage. Earthshock slows her after Rebound, while Fury Swipes punish her for trying to fight for too long.
- Phantom Assassin can dodge some attacks and quickly deal damage in return. Phantom Strike helps close the gap after Unleash ends, but don’t engage while Marci is still delivering a series of empowered attacks.
Mid
- Viper slows Marci and deals damage from a distance, preventing her from easily approaching. Nethertoxin limits passive effects, while Viper Strike makes it harder for her to continue chasing.
- Queen of Pain can dodge Rebound and Dispose with Blink, then deal damage in return. She can quickly leave the area of Unleash and rejoin the fight after the ultimate ends.
Offlaner
- Centaur Warrunner lets the team quickly retreat from Marci with Stampede. Hoof Stomp holds her in place after her jump, while his high health pool helps him absorb the first series of attacks.
- Underlord limits Marci’s movement with Pit of Malice and reduces damage with Atrophy Aura. He protects the backline well and prevents her from freely reaching the supports.
Support
- Shadow Demon saves an ally from an attack with Disruption and buys time while Marci uses Unleash. The slow from Demonic Purge helps the team respond to her initiation.
- Vengeful Spirit can knock Marci back or reposition her with Nether Swap, and stun her with Magic Missile. This interrupts her chase and helps pull an ally out of danger.
Hard support
- Winter Wyvern protects an ally from physical attacks with Cold Embrace and can stop Marci with Winter’s Curse. Save your defensive ability until the enemy has used Rebound.
- Oracle saves the selected target with False Promise and reduces magic damage with Fate’s Edict. Fortune’s End helps dispel some effects and gives the team time to retreat.
What to build against Marci
- Heaven’s Halberd temporarily disarms Marci and helps stop her series of attacks, as long as she isn’t protected from the effect.
- Ghost Scepter protects a support from physical damage during Unleash.
- Force Staff helps push an ally away from Marci or get out of range of her attacks.
- Glimmer Cape lets you hide a hero and survive the initial damage if the enemy has no detection.
- Scythe of Vyse provides reliable control once Marci has used her mobility and can’t immediately escape.
How to play against Marci at different stages
Laning
In lane, don’t stand near creeps if Marci is ready to use Dispose or Rebound. Keep your distance from allies she could jump through, and don’t trade while Bodyguard is active. If Marci uses Rebound to initiate, move away from her and then respond with a short burst of damage. Supports should save a stun to interrupt her chase.
Midgame
In the midgame, Marci often looks for isolated targets in the side lanes. Don’t farm alone without vision, and tell your team if she disappears from the map. In a fight, first survive Unleash: move away, use a knockback or defensive ability, then catch Marci while her key abilities are on cooldown. Don’t use all your disables before she jumps in.
Late game
In the late game, Marci is dangerous if she can reach a support or squishy core without being hindered. Position yourselves so Rebound won’t let her immediately jump to the backline. Save escape items and disarms for Unleash. If she initiates and uses her mobility, the team can quickly turn on her and take her out before she can use her abilities again.
