Bounty Hunter is a stealthy hunter who tracks down isolated targets and helps his team earn extra gold. Track reveals an enemy and shows allies where they are moving. This article covers heroes who are effective against Bounty Hunter in each position, suitable items, and ways to stop him from gaining an advantage.

Hero Characteristics

Bounty Hunter often starts an attack from invisibility. Jinada empowers his hit and steals gold, while Shuriken Toss deals damage and can bounce between targets affected by Track. A marked hero is visible to the enemy, and kills grant his team extra gold.

The hero is vulnerable if detected and caught quickly: he has neither a large health pool nor a reliable way to escape control. Bounty Hunter also depends on successful ganks and map advantages. Moving as a team, maintaining vision, and dispelling Track make it harder for him to find easy targets.

Best Heroes Against Bounty Hunter

Bounty Hunter is most often picked in position 4—as a support—or position 5—as a hard support. Sometimes he plays other roles. Since the hero hunts isolated targets and reveals them with Track, dispels, vision, and heroes who can punish him for getting close are useful against him.

Carry

  • Slark removes Track with Dark Pact and can quickly respond to an attempted attack. Pounce helps him catch up to Bounty Hunter if he tries to escape.
  • Naga Siren removes Track from herself with the ability Mirror Image, while Song of the Siren helps her team wait out a gank and retreat in an organized fashion.

Mid

  • Zeus helps reveal enemy movements and deals damage across the map with Thundergod’s Wrath. This makes it harder for Bounty Hunter to find safe, isolated targets.
  • Razor binds Bounty Hunter with Static Link and wins extended trades. His movement speed helps him stay on the hunter.

Offlaner

  • Slardar reveals an invisible Bounty Hunter with Corrosive Haze and can stun him quickly. This makes it easier for the team to catch the hunter before he gets away.
  • Underlord helps his team control movement around the map and clears waves quickly. Pit of Malice holds Bounty Hunter in place if he tries to attack at close range.

Support

  • Abaddon makes it harder to kill a target affected by Track during a fight, and can also dispel Track with Aphotic Shield.
  • Tusk saves an ally with Snowball and can stop Bounty Hunter with control. His mobility helps him quickly come to the aid of a marked hero.

Hard Support

  • Disruptor limits Bounty Hunter’s movement with Kinetic Field and can bring him back with Glimpse if he tries to escape.
  • Oracle dispels Track from an ally with Fortune’s End and can protect them from focus with False Promise.

What to Buy Against Bounty Hunter

  • Dust of Appearance reveals Bounty Hunter if he is nearby and trying to hide in invisibility.
  • Sentry Ward helps detect an invisible hero and protect important routes around the map.
  • Gem of True Sight reveals Bounty Hunter and his nearby wards, but its carrier must be protected from being killed.
  • Manta Style removes Track from its owner and helps confuse the enemy with illusions.
  • Lotus Orb dispels some negative effects from an ally and reflects targeted abilities.
  • Glimmer Cape helps protect a marked ally and withstand physical damage if the enemy has not revealed them with True Sight.

How to Play Against Bounty Hunter at Different Stages

Laning

Keep an eye on Bounty Hunter when he disappears from lane: he may come around from behind and empower his attack with Jinada. It is useful for a support to place vision on approaches and carry Dust of Appearance. Don’t stand far from an ally if the enemy can attack you alone.

Midgame

Move around the map together and check important paths with Sentry Wards. If an ally is affected by Track, tell the team and decide whether to retreat or catch Bounty Hunter. Don’t give him easy kills and extra gold for isolated targets.

Late Game

In the late game, Track is especially dangerous before a big fight: the enemy can see the team’s movements in advance and gets a bounty for kills. Save Dust and Gem for key moments, but don’t leave Gem unprotected. If Bounty Hunter reveals your position, catch him quickly or change the team’s route.
