Centaur Warrunner is a durable offlaner who starts fights with a stun and helps his team move quickly around the map. He deals heavy damage at close range, while Stampede lets allies initiate a fight or retreat. This article covers Centaur Warrunner counters for each role, items against him, and tactics for different stages of the match.

Hero Overview

Hoof Stomp stuns nearby enemies, Double Edge deals heavy damage to its target and Centaur himself, while Retaliate returns damage when an enemy attacks. Stampede gives the whole team movement speed and lets them move through units. This makes Centaur dangerous when he can get close to heroes and start a fight on his own terms.

Without Stampede, Centaur has a harder time closing the distance. Double Edge also damages him, and heroes with percentage-based damage and the ability to keep their distance make it harder for him to fight. Keep track of his ultimate and don't let Centaur catch your team off guard.

Best Heroes Against Centaur Warrunner

Centaur Warrunner usually plays position 3—the offlane. He fights on the front line and initiates fights with Hoof Stomp and Stampede. Heroes with percentage-based damage, mobility, and protection against disables are useful against him.

Carry

  • Lifestealer deals damage based on the target's health and fights well against heroes with a large health pool. Rage helps him withstand some of Centaur's magical disables.
  • Anti-Mage burns mana with his attacks and closes the distance with Blink. This prevents Centaur from using his abilities as often and helps avoid some of his damage.

Mid

  • Viper slows Centaur and can disable his passive ability with Break from upgraded abilities. Constant pressure makes it harder for him to approach his target safely.
  • Lina deals high magical damage and can quickly attack Centaur from a safe distance, especially after he has used Stampede.

Offlaner

  • Timbersaw keeps his distance with Timber Chain and deals constant pure damage to Centaur. His defenses help him withstand counterattacks.
  • Bristleback handles prolonged fights well and deals area damage while Centaur is nearby. Keep an eye on your health, though: Double Edge also hits Centaur himself.

Support

  • Witch Doctor can stun an enemy with Paralyzing Cask, while Maledict amplifies damage against a target with a large health pool.
  • Shadow Demon saves an ally with Disruption and disrupts Centaur's attack tempo. This gives the team time to retreat or start a counterattack.

Hard Support

  • Ancient Apparition prevents health restoration with Ice Blast and deals damage to Centaur from a safe distance.
  • Oracle protects an ally from focus fire with False Promise and can dispel some negative effects with his abilities.

What to Buy Against Centaur Warrunner

  • Heaven’s Halberd temporarily disarms Centaur and reduces the threat from his attacks.
  • Shiva’s Guard slows nearby enemies and helps the team deal damage to a durable opponent.
  • Spirit Vessel reduces health restoration and deals additional damage to a target with a large health pool.
  • Black King Bar helps withstand magical damage and disables if Centaur initiates a fight.
  • Force Staff lets you or an ally push yourselves away from Centaur and get out of range of his abilities.
  • Scythe of Vyse provides control and prevents Centaur from freely using his abilities.

How to Play Against Centaur Warrunner at Different Stages

Laning Stage

Don't stand near Centaur unnecessarily: Hoof Stomp can stun several heroes at once. Remember that Double Edge also damages Centaur himself, so you can retaliate after he uses it. Don't let him regularly approach your carry without being punished.

Midgame

Watch out for Stampede, and don't start a fight if Centaur can immediately speed up his whole team. Keep your formation spread out so he can't stun several heroes with a single Hoof Stomp. If Centaur uses his ultimate to initiate, use disables and slows to prevent him from retreating freely.

Late Game

Before an important fight, decide who will stop Centaur and who will protect an ally after he dives in. Don't spend all your abilities on him if he used Stampede only to retreat. Once the speed boost ends, the enemy team will have a harder time repositioning quickly—use this window to attack or take an objective.
