Techies controls pathways with mines and deals massive magical damage after Blast Off!. Let’s look at who can safely check dangerous areas, how to survive the Minesweeper’s combo, and which items you need for true sight.
Hero Characteristics
Strengths: Techies excels at burst damage, long-range harassment with Sticky Bomb, and preparing the battlefield with Proximity Mines. Reactive Tazer makes it difficult to attack him with basic attacks.
Weaknesses: The hero is fragile, mana-dependent, and relies on choosing an area in advance. True Sight, magic resistance, and a quick initiation significantly reduce the value of mines.
Best Heroes Against Techies
Techies usually plays in the fourth or fifth position. Tanky heroes, summoned units, and mobile characters who avoid taking obvious routes are useful against him.

How to Play Against Techies at Different Stages
Laning
Don’t stand together under Sticky Bomb, and don’t chase Techies into fog without vision. After Blast Off!, the hero loses health himself—that’s the best moment to counterattack. Use pulls to force your opponent to choose between experience and a safe position. If the lane is pushing toward the enemy, don’t just stand idle by their tower: grab a rune, refresh your vision, or help a nearby lane.
Midgame
Only move onto high ground with vision from an Observer Ward, and send a summoned unit or a tanky hero ahead. Change your routes: moving through the same pathway repeatedly benefits Techies.
Before entering a dangerous part of the map, agree on who will initiate and who will hold onto a counter-initiation ability. Don’t use both defensive tools on the very first effect—one of them should be saved for the rest of the combo. After a successful trade, immediately take vision and the nearest objective; otherwise, the won fight won’t change the map. After taking control of an area, don’t split up to farm nearby camps all at once. One hero should push a safe wave, while the others cover them from the fog and be ready to punish the opponent for trying to regain vision.
Late Game
The late game requires patience: get information first, then use your key abilities. After an unsuccessful attack, don’t chase blindly: restore vision, wait for cooldowns, and only then move on to Roshan or buildings. Leave one hero in a safe area so the opponent can’t get a free path to your base. If the enemy has buybacks, decide in advance whether you’ll continue fighting after the first death. Chasing all the way to the enemy base without waves or vision can easily turn a won engagement into a Roshan loss.
