Silencer breaks combos with a single press of Global Silence and gradually steals Intelligence. Let’s look at who doesn’t rely on casting spells constantly, how to dispel silence, and why it’s beneficial to force Silencer to use his ultimate before the main fight.
Hero Traits
Strengths: Silencer is dangerous thanks to his global silence, strong harassment, and the pure damage from Glaives of Wisdom. Arcane Curse punishes frequent spellcasting, while Last Word disrupts combos that have been prepared in advance. The hero gradually grows stronger from kills near him.
Weaknesses: However, he has no built-in mobility or reliable instant control. He is fragile and loses a lot of his value if enemies quickly dispel silence.
Best Heroes Against Silencer
Silencer most often plays position five, and less often plays position four or mid. Counters need to withstand his attacks, quickly reach the back line, or dispel negative effects from their team.
Carry
- Juggernaut He can activate Blade Fury in advance and reach Silencer, then dispel silence with Manta Style later on.
- Phantom Lancer Doppelganger helps dispel some effects and makes it harder to choose a target. His illusions quickly reach the immobile support.
Mid
- Templar Assassin She deals most of her damage with attacks, Refraction helps her withstand harassment, and a quick burst of physical damage kills Silencer in a few hits.
- Dragon Knight His durability and regeneration let him hold the lane comfortably, while Dragon Tail after Blink Dagger reliably initiates a focus.
Offlaner
- Legion Commander Press the Attack dispels silence from an ally, while Duel quickly takes Silencer himself out of the fight.
- Abaddon Aphotic Shield dispels negative effects, and Borrowed Time can be activated manually even while silenced.
Support
- Spirit Breaker He can find Silencer across the map and keep him locked down with a series of stuns. He doesn’t need to stay nearby for a long time to initiate.
- Nyx Assassin He can approach a fragile target unnoticed, and Mind Flare is especially unpleasant for a hero with a large mana pool.
Hard Support
- Oracle Fortune's End dispels silence from an ally, while False Promise lets them survive focus after Global Silence.
- Omniknight Repel protects a chosen hero from negative effects and helps a core continue fighting.
What to Build Against Silencer
- Black King Bar. When used at the right time, it prevents Global Silence from disabling the hero.
- Manta Style. Dispels silence and creates additional targets.
- Lotus Orb. Dispel negative effects from an ally and reflects targeted spells.
- Eul's Scepter of Divinity. Lets you dispel regular effects from yourself and wait out some of the dangerous duration.
- Guardian Greaves. Provides a team-wide answer and dispels negative effects from the owner when activated.
- Orchid Malevolence. Ironically, an early silence prevents Silencer himself from casting Global Silence in time.
How to Play Against Silencer at Different Stages
Laning
Don’t cast abilities unnecessarily under Arcane Curse—it extends the effect. Pressure Silencer with physical attacks and approach from two sides: he has no way to escape. Don’t give up kills near him, or the permanent Intelligence loss will start affecting your mana.
Midgame
Before an important fight, check who has a dispel of their own. Sometimes it’s worth starting a brief initiation with one hero to force Global Silence, and only then using your main ultimates. Look for Silencer himself on the back line first.
Don’t use all your dispels at once. Save one item in case of Last Word or another silence after Global Silence.
Late Game
Late in the game, Global Silence often decides the outcome of a fight, so don’t use all your defensive items in advance. Split the initiation into two waves and keep Lotus Orb or another dispel for your main core. If Silencer dies before casting his ultimate, his team loses most of its advantage.
Silencer often stays very far away, so a normal frontal initiation can’t reach him. Vision on the flank and a mobile hero should hunt for him separately from the main frontline.
