Tinker constantly moves between lanes, deals damage from a long distance, and makes it difficult to attack under Laser. Let’s look at who can find Tinker in the trees, what control can stop him from escaping, and how to limit his map presence.

Hero Characteristics

Strengths: Tinker is strong thanks to his high spell frequency and ability to quickly return to a fight. Laser deals pure damage and causes attacks to miss, while March of the Machines controls an area.

Weaknesses: The hero is fragile and completely dependent on positioning. Long-range initiation, silence, and vision behind towers make him an easy target.

How to Play Against Tinker at Different Stages

Laning

Pressure Tinker before he gets levels and items: he is fragile and struggles to escape an early gank. Control the runes and don’t stand together under Laser and area damage.

On the lane, decide in advance how you’re going to win trades. Keep an eye on your mana, bring regeneration early, and don’t sacrifice several creeps’ worth of health for one last hit. If your opponent uses their main ability on the wave, use its cooldown for a quick attack or a safe pull. Keep the wave closer to your tower: this forces your opponent to move farther from safety to farm. Before committing to an attack, check whether the next enemy wave is approaching—extra creeps often change the outcome of a trade.

Midgame

Place vision behind towers and in jungle entrances, and block safe camps. Don’t blindly chase through the trees: cut off the exits and approach from different sides with several heroes.

In the midgame, assign roles in the fight ahead of time. Don’t use both defensive tools on the first effect—one should be saved for the follow-up to the combo. After a successful trade, take vision and the nearest objective right away; otherwise, the won fight won’t change the map. Before a fight, check which enemies have shown on the side lanes and who has a Teleport Scroll ready. Only make a play when you know how many heroes can come to help and which route they’ll take.

Late Game

Save your instant silence until Tinker appears. Supports need their own saves, but the main goal isn’t to endure an endless barrage—it’s to quickly find the source of the damage and prevent him from escaping.

In the late game, one positioning mistake matters more than a small gold difference. After an unsuccessful attack, don’t chase blindly: restore vision, wait for cooldowns, and only then move on to Roshan or buildings. Leave one hero on a safe wave so the enemy doesn’t get a free path to your base. Don’t show your main initiator on a wave before a decisive push. Let another hero push the lane safely while you keep your control abilities hidden in the fog: an unknown position often forces your opponent to retreat without a fight.
