One well-aimed Mirana arrow can end in a kill, and her leaps often thwart any attempt to chase her down. Moonlight Shadow adds another threat: the entire enemy team can approach you under invisibility. In this article, we’ll look at Mirana counters for every position, useful items, and ways to avoid giving her easy targets.
Hero's strengths and weaknesses
Sacred Arrow stuns the first enemy it hits, and a long-range shot is more dangerous than one fired at close range. Starstorm helps deal magic damage quickly at close range, while Leap lets her jump over obstacles, escape pursuers, and reposition to attack. Moonlight Shadow makes allies invisible and helps set up surprise attacks.
Mirana works well with heroes who have reliable disables: it’s much easier to hit an immobilized target with an arrow. However, she depends on Sacred Arrow’s accuracy and having Leap charges available. Silence and root prevent her from leaping away immediately, while a strong dispel on an ally can remove the stun from an arrow. If Mirana builds right-click damage, spell protection alone won’t be enough against her.
Best heroes against Mirana
Mirana is often picked as a position 4 support. You can also see her as a carry and in other roles. Against any build, heroes who can limit Leap, reveal invisibility, or save an ally after a Sacred Arrow hit will be useful.
Carry
- Slark keeps Mirana in place with Pounce and prevents her from using Leap. Dark Pact can dispel the arrow’s stun if cast in advance, but it can’t be used after she’s hit.
- Bloodseeker limits Mirana’s leaps with Rupture: moving while affected by the ultimate deals damage to her. Blood Rite forces her to reposition and silences her if it goes off.
Mid
- Puck can dodge Sacred Arrow with Phase Shift. Waning Rift prevents Mirana from using abilities, while Dream Coil limits her attempts to escape with a leap.
- Storm Spirit quickly closes the distance after Leap with Ball Lightning. Electric Vortex holds Mirana nearby so she can’t use her next Leap charge in time.
Offlaner
- Slardar reveals a selected target with Corrosive Haze. This prevents Mirana from saving herself or an ally with Moonlight Shadow, while Slithereen Crush helps continue the chase.
- Abaddon dispels Sacred Arrow’s stun from an ally with Aphotic Shield. He’s especially useful against combos where Mirana’s team is counting on killing a hero with one long chain of disables.
Support
- Skywrath Mage starts the attack with Ancient Seal to prevent Mirana from escaping with Leap. If an ally adds a stun or root, Mystic Flare provides the damage needed for a quick kill.
- Bounty Hunter marks enemies with Track and prevents them from approaching unnoticed under Moonlight Shadow. Keep dispels in mind: once the mark is removed, it no longer provides vision.
Hard support
- Oracle removes Sacred Arrow’s stun from an ally with False Promise. Fortune's End can hold Mirana herself in place, but it can’t remove a stun from an ally.
- Lion catches Mirana with an instant Hex and continues the disable with Earth Spike. Finger of Death helps finish her off before her next Leap.
What to buy against Mirana
- Dust of Appearance and Sentry Ward are needed against Moonlight Shadow. Dust is useful for revealing enemies during a chase, while Sentries can be placed in advance to protect the location of an upcoming fight.
- Gem of True Sight helps detect invisible enemies while moving as a team. Give it to a hero you can protect: the item can be lost on death.
- Orchid Malevolence prevents Mirana from using Leap. Once she has a dispel, it’s better to use silence after she’s already used her defensive item.
- Rod of Atos holds Mirana in place and prevents her from leaping away. It’s useful if your team lacks the disables needed to initiate an attack.
- Black King Bar lets you protect yourself in advance from Sacred Arrow’s stun and reduce spell damage. Against carry Mirana, you’ll still need to account for her regular attacks.
- Force Staff helps move a caught ally farther away from enemies. It doesn’t remove the stun, but it can prevent enemies from reaching the target.
- Scythe of Vyse provides instant control before Mirana has a chance to leap or hide.
How to play against Mirana at different stages
Laning
Keep allied creeps between you and Mirana: they can block her arrow. When she moves toward the trees, reposition so you don’t give her a clear shot. After she misses Sacred Arrow, you can play more aggressively, but first assess your lane partner’s disables. Don’t spend all your abilities chasing while Mirana still has Leap charges.
Mid game
If the enemy team disappears from the map all at once, be prepared for an attack under Moonlight Shadow. Make sure there’s vision with detection on the approaches to key areas. During a fight, watch not only Mirana but also the hero setting up a hit for her: the arrow is often fired right after an ally’s stun. Save your defensive abilities for this combo.
Late game
Place Sentry Wards in the Roshan area and on the approaches to your base in advance. Don’t let Mirana get free shots at a stationary hero hitting a tower. If she’s playing carry, catch her with disables after she uses Leap and prevent her from attacking freely. A support Mirana only needs one well-aimed arrow, so keep track of her position even if she has few items.
